Home Horizon Georgian Triangle Residential Services

Home Horizon bridges the identified critical gap between emergency shelter and independent living for youth aged 16-24. As a registered charitable organization, Home Horizon transforms the lives of vulnerable homeless youth by providing safe transitional housing and personal supports. Clients become self-sufficient and productive contributors to our South Georgian Bay communities.

The Barbara Weider House offers a place of safety and hope for homeless youth. Its services address the needs of youth in crisis and provides the support to help them master the tasks of adolescence as well as focus on their education and employment possibilities.

Many of the homeless youth have fled or been forced out of their homes because they are victims of domestic abuse and /or neglect. Poverty, mental health issues, drug and alcohol abuse, family conflict or trouble at school are also major factors in youth homelessness. With little family support, no money and no stable roof over their head, it is easy to understand how the most basic daily routines, such as going to school or finding and keeping a job, are daunting if not impossible.

Luckily there is hope. The Barbara Weider House provides these vulnerable youth with a safe home and welcoming shared environment – something many of these youth have never had. Their counsellors work closely with them to help develop critical life and independent living skills that would help any young person make a successful transition to adulthood.
