Theatre Collingwood is back on the boards!

Posted: April 30, 2019

Theatre Collingwood is delighted to share with you all the details about their 2019 Summer Theatre Festival.

The non-profit organization was put in a regrettable position when they were forced to take their productions out of the Historic Gayety Theatre due to greatly increased and unrealistic rental rates for 2019. These inflated rates, proposed by Sid Dickinson, were also dropped on them right before the opening of their 2019 season, and after 15 years of being the largest renter of the Historic Gayety Theatre.

“Our supportive and loyal patrons have been waiting to hear the exact locations for our 2019 shows and we are happy to announce the venues for this exciting Summer Theatre Festival NOW!” said Theatre Collingwood’s Executive Director, Erica Angus. "The support we have received from the various locations, the artists, and the patrons has been overwhelming and we we want to thank everyone. This is going to be a very exciting theatre adventure!"

HERE'S WHERE YOU WILL FIND THEATRE COLLINGWOOD'S 35TH ANNIVERSARY SEASON

Where You Are May 21 – 25: is the first show of the season and it will take place downtown at the Simcoe Street Theatre. If you have not visited this arts hub before, you are in for a treat! Located in Collingwood's former newspaper building, 65 Simcoe has become a vibrant home to creative and culinary businesses including the Creemore Coffee Studio, Blue Mountain Foundation for the Arts and the Press Gallery as well as a 100-seat black-box theatre, which will provide an intimate setting for this humorous play about family-life on Manitoulin Island. David Nairn is the Director and we are delighted to have the playwright, Kristen Da Silva, as one of the actors!

First Presbyterian Church at 200 Maple Street is an historic gem in Collingwood's admired Tree Streets neighborhood and it's the perfect setting for our second production of the summer, Louise Pitre: From Piaf to Mama Mia June 19 - 22. The parish is more than 160 years in the making and the current building that's within a stone's throw from main street, dates back to 1878. We know you'll be delighted by the incredible sound this venue provides for us to showcase Canada's First Lady of Musical Theatre in a performance that highlights many moments from her magnificent career.

In the height of summer, we invite you to take an easy drive from downtown to one of Ontario's most popular tourist destinations! Summer of '69 July 9 - 13 will take place at the base of the slopes in the Weider Room at Blue Mountain Inn Conference Centre. State-of-the-art technology is matched by scenic and comfortable surroundings at this beautiful location. It's fully accessible and boasts a spacious outdoor terrace.

For the next show of our Summer Festival, we hope you'll join us for a brand new production by the prolific playwright, Norm Foster! Beside Myself August 20 - 24 will be staged at the gorgeous Georgian Bay Hotel & Conference Centre. Many patrons are familiar with this venue, which has been home to our annual fundraising Gala for several years. In fact, if you want to a sneak peek at this location, grab your tickets now for Reelin' In The Years, our 2019 UN-Gala.

We'll round-up the festival with a toe-tappin', roof-raisin' good time at the ideal spot for Leisa Way's Opry Gold Sept 24-28 at the Great Northern Exhibition Fairgrounds. This incredible gathering place has been a mainstay for community events from rodeos to weddings, and everything in between since 1855! It's now centrally located on the east side of Collingwood less than 10 kms from downtown. Leisa and her Wayward Wind Band will be right at home!
